Let’s celebrate one of the finest pieces of architecture designed by and for African Americans in recent memory. The museum , designed by the renowned Architect David Adjaye, is dedicated to the African-American story. It filled the last spot on The National Mall and has become the most popular museum in DC. It features a unique layered form and a mesh-like façade inspired by African textiles that plays with light and pattern in a sublime way. Ironically, earlier this year, President Trump attempted to dictate that all Federal Buildings shall evermore be designed only in the classical (Greco-Roman) style. The wild success of this extraordinary building is testament to the principal that diversity and the inclusion of many cultures, rather than homogeneity, is what makes America truly great.
